Certification is third party confirmation that products, installation, services, systems and personnel meet standards. It is beneficial to everyone in the supply chain, from the manufacturer through to the installer and the end-user. It gives confidence to the Client and the Architects and everyone involved in the chain that the products they are specifying for use are fit for purpose and just as important, ensures that they are correctly installed.
Certification ensures that a product complies with specific standards, and regular audits ensure that it continues to meet the specification and is manufactured and installed in accordance with the specification agreed by the Certification Board.
A fundamental aspect of fire safety in buildings is the specification and installation of fire-resisting products and systems. Failure of these products or systems can allow fire to spread and even the building to collapse. It doesn’t matter how good the products are if they are incorrectly installed it will compromise the fire protection element of the product or service. This has led to the development of third party accredited schemes for installers of passive fire protection products, such as LPCB’s LPS1231 scheme and Warrington Fire Research’s FIRAS scheme.
By specifiying 3rd Party Accredited installers you can essentially expect:-
Contractors who understand the critical aspects of the designed fire protection system
Gives confidence to clients, main contractors, manufacturers and installers
Discriminates against ‘cowboy’ installers
Sets performance requirements relevant to each operation
Use of trained operators to ensure that work is completed right first time
Less problems on site
Confirmation of product compatability prior to installation
Certificate of Conformity stating that the work was undertaken to the required standard
The scheme also links the installers and the manufacturers by a common desire to provide the service required by the client. Manufacturers are required to train installers in the correct installation of their products and to provide a detailed set of instructions.
The installation standard is set by the manufacturer in conjunction with the performance and needs of the product/service. The Accrediting Company will check the installation standards laid down by the manufacturer and the installer training course provided.
manufacture LPCB Accredited products and also provide a Training Scheme for installers of products which is both FIRAS and LPCB approved
